Harry Potter and the second half of muggle shots

Just two more nights of sleep before LEGO releases the new Harry Potter Minifigure series around the globe officially.

A new box full of awesome minifigures to delight kids, adults, Harry Potter fans and LEGO toy photographers all around the world and here is part two of our introduction into the magic world of JKR aka …
If you did not read the first one yet, we warmly recommend you zap yourself over to that magical booth and start from the beginning by clicking here.

For all of you who are eagerly waiting for part two of the mug(gle) shot … let’s just dive in with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named after all the good vibes yesterday.

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named

Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on the last day of 1926 as a half-blood wizard with serious father issues. His pure blood wizard mother was a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin and died minutes after giving birth to one of the most powerful and dangerous dark wizards of all time, Lord Voldemort.

Sealed together in the same bag is Nagini.  A long, green female snake that belongs to Lord Voldemort.  She has a special bond mainly due to becoming a Horcrux after her master had killed Bertha Jorkins and new a piece of his soul is in her and it is obvious in our little photoshoot who is the alpha.

Nagina, a powerful Horcrux.

If you wonder what a Horcrux is, then look no further.

Horcrux

A Horcrux is an object in which a Dark wizard or witch has hidden a fragment of his or her soul for the purpose of attaining immortality. They (that is the Horcruxes) can only be created after committing murder, the supreme act of evil and so Nagini contains a piece of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named soul.

I am sure the distinct figure of Nagini will make this an easy find if you are into an extra copy of Lord Voldemort for a dark day.

Lord Voldemort is the first in this series to have the new kind of robe that is no longer a classic sloped brick, but has some rounded curves.
Not sure if it really makes a difference, and I for one am not impressed.

Dobby

Dobby is a male house-elf who served the Malfoy family, who treated him cruelly. He tried to warn Harry Potter of the plot to reopen the Chamber of Secrets and in the fallout of those adventures, Harry tricked Lucius Malfoy (the father of Draco) into freeing Dobby.

If you don’t remember the exact details, it involves a dirty sock.

“Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf…”

The interesting information here is that the book and the movies fundamentally differ on the usage of the sock.

In the book, Harry put Tom Riddles diary inside the sock, while in the film, the sock is inside the book. LEGO obviously followed the movie plot lines and put the sock inside the Diary of Tom Riddle. You know the one whose name should not be spoken out loud (Tom Riddle = Lord Voldemort).

Sybill Trelawney

“So you may have chosen to study Divination, the most difficult of all magical arts. I must warn you at the outset that if you do not have the Sight, there is very little I will be able to teach you. Books can take you only so far in this field….”

Sybill Patricia Trelawney is a half-blood witch, born somewhere before 1962 in Great Britain. She is the great-great-granddaughter of the famous Cassandra Trelawney, who was also a Seer and could see into the future.

She (that is Sybill and not Cassandra) teaches Divination at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Her hairpiece, her diversity glasses and her cup of tea will be a photographers delight.

She is the second robed character in this set and happily predicts the death of her students.

Tea anyone?

Ohh. And did I mention the fine art printing?
Awesome.
A pity there are only two in each box.

Filius Flitwick

“Speaking of eccentrics, you’ll like our Head of House, Professor Filius Flitwick. People often underestimate him, because he’s really tiny (we think he’s part elf, but we’ve never been rude enough to ask) and he’s got a squeaky voice, but he’s the best and most knowledgeable Charms master alive in the world today. His office door is always open to any Ravenclaw with a problem, and if you’re in a real state he’ll get out these delicious little cupcakes he keeps in a tin in his desk drawer and make them do a little dance for you. In fact, it’s worth pretending you’re in a real state just to see them jive.”

Professor Filius Flitwick was born on the 17th October 1958 as a half goblin and some thought an elf. He attended the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry together with Aldus Dumbledore and was sorted into the Ravenclaw House.

After his graduation, he became the Charms Master and head of the Ravenclaw House.

Bow Tie

The bow tie, his hairpiece, and his jacket will make it to many wardrobes for sure.

Alastor Moody

Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody

Talking about eccentrics. Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody is a pure-blood Scottish wizard and member of the Order of the Phoenix during the first and second Wizard War but there is more than meets the eye with this special character.

Just like Percival Graves, there is a second hairpiece and a full transformation hidden in the bag.
Talk about mixed identities.
But we let you figure that one out yourselves.
Some secrets should not be revealed.

The hairpiece is awesome, the printing is very detailed, and I am sure this character will get a few steampunk variations along the coming days.

The invisible Harry Potter

During our muggle shoot, little Harry sneaked up on our photographer, and I think young Harry must have thought he had his invisible cape on.

Fortunate for us, he must have forgotten it, and we caught the young one in his pajamas.

Not so invisible now.

A lovely set of pajamas. Grab yours while you can as there are only two in each box and you want one of those. Very comfy and a classic in the making.

Albus Dumbledore.

The Head Master of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was born in 1881 as the son of Percival and Kendra Dumbledore and elder brother of Aberfort and Ariana.

He is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and is most famous for his defeat of Gellert Grindelwald, the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon’s blood, and his work on alchemy.

And it is the defeat of Gellert Grindelwald (our unique collectible in this box) that sparks an interesting piece of information on his character that his creative master shared with the world in 2017. J.K. Rowling revealed that Dumbledore was gay, and harbored romantic feelings for Gellert.  No further comments were made upon Grindelwald’s sexuality or whether Grindelwald returned his feelings. Only J.K. Rowling imagination would be able to tell us more but it is interesting fact that both characters are in the box.

The characters in Harry Potter worlds give a complex view of our world we are living in today and I can only applaud Joanne aka JKR (born 31 July 1965) for not shying away from more complex storylines and share her world with her readers. Thanks Joanne.

Newt Scamander

“I have visited lairs, burrows and nests across five continents, observed the curious habits of magical beasts in a hundred countries, witnessed their powers, gained their trust and, on occasion, beaten them off with my traveling kettle.”

Newton Artemis Fido Scamander from the House of Hufflepuff was born in February 1897 and was a famed Magizoologist. He has a deep interest in magical creatures, following in his mother’s footsteps who bred hippogriffs.

A little-known fact is that Albus Dumbledore defended the innocence of Newt when he got expelled from Hogwarts in his early days.

The amount of relations in this box is just … breathtaking.

The worlds of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them is just as vast as the world of Tolkien’s Lord of the Ring, The Hobbit and the Silmarillion and relationships are everywhere.

And don’t you love the suitcase and the Niffler?

Tina Goldstein

Porpentina Esther “Tina” Scamander (born Goldstein) was born on the 19th August 1901 in the USA. She is  a half-blood American witch.

She went to the  Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Thunderbird house. After graduating from IIvermorny, she became an Auror for the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

She played a crucial role in arresting Gellert Grindelwald, the special character in this box.

Tina later became the wife of Newt and moved to the UK.

Tina is the only character where I do have complaints on the print job TLG did as her hair has some distinct blue paint from her hat. It is always possible that the intercontinental voyage over the Atlantic caused the hat to loose some color and this is an authentic detail. You can look at the photo for more detail. No cleaning up was done.

The body parts are gorgeous though.

Jacob Kowalski

The only real muggle in the whole series?

Jacob “Everyone knows Newt only kept me around ’cause… hey, Newt, why did you keep me around?

Newt: “Because… I like you. Because you’re my friend. And I’ll never forget how you helped me, Jacob.

— Jacob and Newt, somewhere in 1926

Beautiful suit. Beautiful hairpiece. Great pastry. And a new romance in the making (little spoiler alert ahead).

Queenie Goldstein

“Aw, don’t worry, honey. Most guys think what you was thinking, first time they see me.”

Queenie was born in 1902 as the younger sister of Porpentina Esther “Tina” Scamander who was born as a Goldstein. Siblings.
And considered to be the bombshell in the family.

At least not a bombshell LEGO character to me, and I must say I originally thought this was the new Dolores Umbridge. Go figure.

I think the prints on the legs look kind of off, but maybe the new movie will reveal all its detail in its full glory. Not sure it is stockings or pink boots.

One thing seems to be for sure and that is that Queenie seems to pick up the story with Jacob where she left it before and take the bakery to the next level.

For more intrigues on the new Fantastic Beasts, movie have a look at this gossip column here (no big spoilers ahead, just a teaser picture of the original movie being analyzed).

Credence Barebone

“His name’s Credence. His mother beats him. She beats all those kids she adopted, but she seems to hate him the most.” —Teenie Goldstein

Credence Barebone was born as Corvus Lestrange and an American Wizard.  He is the adopted son of Mary Lou Barebone, the leader of Muggles anti-wizard group, called the New Salem Philanthropic Society.

Credence had two adopted sisters, Chastity and Modesty and his hairpiece seems to come straight out of the Yellow Submarine and the Beatles Era.

It is a pity the skin color is printed on the body, and I hope TLG will leave this behind when not really adding value and comes up with a more generic approach.

Credence is one of those that are two of a kind.

Percival Graves

The alternative body

With the new movie being called Fantastic Beasts, The Crime of Grindelwald the main character in the box is most probably Gellert Grindelwald and not Percival Graves.

Gellert Grindelwald

A law that has us scuttling like rats in the gutter. A law that demands that we conceal our true nature. One that directs those under its dominion to cower in fear, lest we risk discovery. I ask you, Madam President, I ask all of you — who does this law protect? Us, or them? I refuse to bow down any longer.” The special character of this box, Gellert Grindelwald.

Gellert Grindelwald was born in 1883 as a pureblood wizard. He is considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous Dark Wizards of all time, considered to be surpassed only by Tom Riddle. You know, the Tom we call Lord Voldemort.  Grindelwald was expelled from school for twisted, dark experiments and almost fatal attacks on his fellow students.

Albus

He then fostered a friendship with the young Albus Dumbledore, making plans to find the Deathly Hallows and lead together a Wizard Revolution to end the International Statute of Secrecy, creating a global order led by wise and powerful witches and wizards that would control and dominate Muggles (read us, mere humans).

Their relationship ultimately fell apart after they were involved in a three-way duel with Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth that resulted in the death of Dumbledore’s sister Ariana.

Life ain’t easy.

Grindelwald is a highly complex figure, highly idealistic and talented, dedicated to achieving his ends at any cost. A revolutionary operating outside the law, he and his followers committed numerous crimes, including several murders. With violent acts in both the United States and Europe, Grindelwald ultimately established a power base at the fortress of Nurmengard.

In 1945, at the height of Grindelwald’s power, Dumbledore confronted and defeated him in a by now legendary duel.

Grindelwald is the main character in the new Fantastic Beasts movie to be released later this autumn and the exclusive character in this box.
