Week 9 – SiP goes Paris

Community

This week’s word is community. According to our good friends at Wikipedia, it is defined as:

community is a small or large social group of living things who have something in common, such as norms, religion, values, or identity.

We’ve seen in this week submissions both the idea of geographical community or virtual community.

Particularly, community relates strongly to the toy photography community and to us here in Stuck in Plastic. As a community mostly active through social media, it fits in the category of community centered around a virtual space. However, creating social connections in the physical world and expanding our community into real-life relationships is also important to us. This is why we organize each year a toy safari

So what better way, than sharing some more details about the 2018 edition of the Stuck in Plastic toy safari as part of this weeks word, community!

SiP goes … in 2018

2017 is almost over but here at Stuck In Plastic, we are already planning 2018.

I hope you all enjoyed our reports about our last toy safari in Scotland (the review, the #1Toy2Share activity or Chris Rose experience) and maybe you were even able to attend our small exhibition during Bricklive Birmingham. We all had a blast there. Since we want to have fun again soon, we’ve already started planning the next one. Continue reading “SiP goes … in 2018”

SiP goes Scotland was a blast!

SiP went Scotland.

It’s been more than a week since our toy safari in Scotland became history, but we haven’t reported about it on the blog yet. Between the Where is Anton contest, the LEGO House opening, Skaerbaek and the Ninjago Movie madness, it’s finally time to tell you how great this weekend was.

Here’s a little summary of our adventures.

Friday Morning

In the morning the ones to arrive first in Edinburgh met for a quick walk to the castle, while some others tried to fix the transport of the day (an adventure on its own). After some quick lunch and food toy photography, it was time to take the first real dip into the hometown of Harry Potter himself. We managed to visit some of the key Harry Potter locations in the city center such as Victoria Street, Candlemaker Row, and Greyfriars Kirkyard.

The first toy photo of the safari in progress!

Greyfriars Kirkyard

Kirkyard or fancy word for historical graveyard is a toy photographers dream, and before you knew it everyone was exploring locations, leaving no stone unturned. Well, kind of. Continue reading “SiP goes Scotland was a blast!”

Photo Meetup – European Edition

The very first ever Stuck In Plastic Photo Meetup, Workshop and Party all in one on the European continent is taking place in Sweden, just outside Stockholm in the beautiful city of Vaxholm.

The program is packed with lots of fun, friends and plastic shooting.

Full details available here.

Registration on Facebook or RSVP form is mandatory as the seats for the full workshop and crayfish party are limited.

We have a full agenda, starting on Friday evening for those folks who fly in, or just don’t want to miss any second.

We continue with a (very) early morning sunrise shoot in Vaxholm for the international folks, and join up with the locals at 14:00 for the walking workshop. At 17:00 we are back in The Studio and take a dip in the sea (do bring your swimming gear) before we gather for a typical Swedish crayfish party, some toasts and some after dinner workflows.

Limited Bed and Breakfast Rooms available in Vaxholms Castle.

Your personal contribution in the event is estimated at 500 SEK/person (including dinner, excluding hotel), and as said, full details available here.

Toy Photo Safari

I am looking forward to my upcoming journey with +Me2 and our other Stuckinplastic friends. I hear we leave on Saturday for 16 days of travel through some amazing countryside. I am not sure what to expect but I am sure some beautiful photographs will be forthcoming.

A little closer to home my friend Jon (who you may know by the IG handle of Dinoczars) and I are planning to host a toy photographers meet up in Las Vegas Nevada the weekend of January 16-19, 2015. This event will include an initial meet and greet, two photo outings, time to swap tips and a photo exchange. We have a few more surprises in store depending on the response we get.

If you would like more information about the event just click here.

We already have a few brave souls signed up for this epic journey and I am very much looking forward to meeting them in person:  Krash Override, Captain Kaos, Papajov, Wikitoybox and of course reconnecting with Bricksailboat. If you have any desire to join us and make this far flung world of Instagram a little smaller and more personable let me know in the comments, G+ or on Instagram.

Because in this crazy world that we live in, we need to take every opportunity to make connections and enjoy the time we are given. Which of course means playing more with our toys.
