A look back at a year on the Death Star

That’s it!
My #SiPgoes52 project is finished.
1 year, 12 months, 52 weeks, 52 pictures.

At the time, I am writing these words, I have just finished editing my last picture in the series giving it its final name “32_Humility.jpg”. (Yes, I had to get back on the horse with this project after a long summer break. So I did not make them in order at the end.)
It’s a bitter-sweet moment…
On the one end, I am really happy with what I accomplished. I am proud of my pictures. I am relieved that I was able to finish in time.
But on the other end, making the 52nd picture, the last one, means that it’s over. And I hate things that end. I hate saying goodbye.

The full project

So, to help me with cope with “Post Project Depression”, let me share my feelings about this past year, my ideas for the future with this project, my “best something” pictures and show you the big picture to discover a secret hidden story.

Cars and waters

Classic Cars and where to go to

We have already posted some articles about SiP’s photoshootings of LEGO’s classic Creator Expert cars. Today I’d like to share with you the look through my viewfinder. There may be many ways to approach “the next” photo project.
One simple idea is that it’s all about a vision.

You have an object.
You imagine a scenery where you see this object.
You think of a certain atmosphere, a mood.

And then it is all about finding the right location

In every end, there is a new beginning.

Soon 2018 will be over. It means SiPgoes52 will be, too.
Almost.
One week left.
But it’s not the end.
A new year means a new challenge.

Here comes SiPgoes53!

For 2019, we have gathered another list of 52, well, words. This time no values or emotions, but people. People who shaped the world. Shaped humanity and our culture.

How I completed my photography project

A year ago, Boris told us about his idea for a project around 52 words. Even though it didn’t take long for me to feel impatient about it, at first I wasn’t excited. I couldn’t have believed that I would be able to complete this project and not miss a single week.

The problem with SiPgoes52

One of the reasons I wasn’t excited is that I’m not a fan of 52 (or 365) projects. Particularly, those where the goal is to take one photo a week or a day.

There are days or weeks where I’m not inspired or motivated enough to take good photos. Also, as an outdoor photographer, the weather is important and not always cooperative. Finally, in late December and early January, I was in Belgium where I would most likely lack time, motivation and inspiration for photography.

This meant I couldn’t start a project with completely new photos, nor have a common theme common across all of the 52 words like Julien did.

What SiPgoes52 was truly about

Picking old photos

I started my project by looking at photos.
Photos I had already posted.
Photos I had already taken but not posted yet.

Instead of taking photos, I was choosing photos. The challenge for me wasn’t about making a photo based on a word. It was about finding the words within existing photos.

I took this photo in December while we were planning SiPgoes52. After taking it, I knew it was a keeper and wanted it to be part of my photo project. So I browsed the list of words to find the one that would be the most appropriate. (It ended up being “sensuality”.)

SiPgoes52 is complete!

I did it! I completed my SiPgoes52 project.

There are still some upcoming photos to clean up in Photoshop. Choices between alternate photos I need to make. Some upcoming words for which I want to take more photos, hoping a better one will come up. Some older words I want to revisit.

But I’m now sure that I’ve got at least one photo to post for each of the remaining words.

Meet José

This week’s SiPgoes52 word is “inspiration”. So let’s use that opportunity to be inspired by José who’s our guest for this week’s #FeatureFriday interview around a virtual cup of coffee.

About José

Hi! My name is José David. I’m just a Spanish guy in the middle of his 20’s (well, actually a little closer to the 30’s) and currently based in Majorca. I’ve studied chemistry and environmental technology at the university, and I usually work wearing a lab coat while trying not to stain myself with samples or chemical reagents. In addition to that, I also try to be a good teacher to youngsters and help them to understand the exciting (hmm…maybe sometimes not that much) world of science they must study for their exams. Did I fail my #SiPgoes52 project?

As you may have noticed if you follow me on social media, I haven’t posted a SiPgoes52 picture in a while. Now, it has been several months since my last picture on this project.

If you remember my initial post, I had everything planned in advance. A small set-up that I can install at home. I was trying to think about my picture ideas in advance, and take those pictures in advance.

But one thing came in the middle of that and ruined the initial plan: LIFE!

Yes. It was Saturday afternoon. I was planning my pictures to shoot on Sunday: Hope and Action. I was looking for an idea for Quality, but I was called to work on Sunday, and my plans got ruined.

I didn’t take any picture that Sunday, and thus missed my Wednesday slot. Then, came the weekend of our toy safari and once again, no time to take any SiPgoes52 picture. Then, I lost track of time and motivation, and so I didn’t pursue the project. And now, 20 weeks later, I have not taken any additional picture.

Does that mean that I failed? Will I ever continue? Continue reading “Did I fail my #SiPgoes52 project?”

The Story behind Aria, T-Rap and the Cookie

We’ve already talked in the past about the first test shot and the struggle when it comes to recreating it. This is something I’ve experienced with this week’s SiPgoes52 word: trust.

Last year, at the beginning of the winter, and not long before we started planning SiPgoes52, I took a photo of Aria befriending T-Rap. When we kicked off our little project for 2018, I started going over all my photos from last year. I was hoping to find photos I had already taken that would fit one of our 52 human values and emotions.

Story book (a summer project) – Status report

Summer holidays.

What a great moment of the year. I really hope you are enjoying yours.

Like every year, the summer season is one of the busiest time of the year at work, for me. This June/July did not fail to be so.

And since I don’t have any child, I tend to take my summer holidays in June or September. What a delight to be on vacation when everyone is back at the office. :-)

This time, in September, there is the Edinburgh toy safari planned followed by a trip to Denmark (but more on that later on the blog).

Don’t get me wrong, I will have a short break this August during which I will drive to the South of France, to visit my parents.  Continue reading “Story book (a summer project) – Status report”
