Did I fail my #SiPgoes52 project?

As you may have noticed if you follow me on social media, I haven’t posted a SiPgoes52 picture in a while. Now, it has been several months since my last picture on this project.

If you remember my initial post, I had everything planned in advance. A small set-up that I can install at home. I was trying to think about my picture ideas in advance, and take those pictures in advance.

But one thing came in the middle of that and ruined the initial plan: LIFE!

Yes. It was Saturday afternoon. I was planning my pictures to shoot on Sunday: Hope and Action. I was looking for an idea for Quality, but I was called to work on Sunday, and my plans got ruined.

I didn’t take any picture that Sunday, and thus missed my Wednesday slot. Then, came the weekend of our toy safari and once again, no time to take any SiPgoes52 picture. Then, I lost track of time and motivation, and so I didn’t pursue the project. And now, 20 weeks later, I have not taken any additional picture.

Does that mean that I failed? Will I ever continue? Continue reading “Did I fail my #SiPgoes52 project?”

Meet Donald

After several SiPgoes52 Feature Friday interviews, we’re finally leaving Europe for the USA… Today we have our weekly chat around a virtual cup of coffee with Donald Vandervoort from New York!

About Donald

I’m 56 years old and live in Brooklyn NY all life. I love traveling throughout the United States on my motorcycle and I carry my LEGO sigfig with me to document my trips. I play the guitar from time to time. I’ve been into photography on and off since I was a teenager. Continue reading “Meet Donald”

The Story behind Aria, T-Rap and the Cookie

We’ve already talked in the past about the first test shot and the struggle when it comes to recreating it. This is something I’ve experienced with this week’s SiPgoes52 word: trust.

Last year, at the beginning of the winter, and not long before we started planning SiPgoes52, I took a photo of Aria befriending T-Rap. When we kicked off our little project for 2018, I started going over all my photos from last year. I was hoping to find photos I had already taken that would fit one of our 52 human values and emotions.

Meet Stefan

After last week #FeatureFriday around ginger tea, this week we’re back to coffee with our good friend and returner Stefan from Malmö.

About Stefan

My name is Stefan (@fubiken on Instagram ) and I am from Malmö, Sweden. I am a 47-year-old man, I don’t have photography as a job but as a hobby. What I mostly photograph is nature, macro, and toys of course. I have been taking photos for a long time, but it is in the last six or seven years that I have been taking it more seriously than before. Continue reading “Meet Stefan”

Meet Jana

It’s Friday again and we’ve got another #SiPgoes52 Feature Friday. This week, it’s Jana Skálová who joins us for an interview around a virtual cup of ginger tea.

About Jana

I’m a software tester currently living in Brno, Czechia, where I hope to organize a toy safari one day. There are historical buildings, hills with nice views, forests, and an old quarry with ponds… Lots of different environments for toy photos. Sadly, I have to say that I never used any of them yet, because I’m so shy when taking toy photos in public. (I’m hoping that organizing a toy safari here would help to overcome that.) Meet David

This week we’re coming back with a #SiPgoes52 Feature Friday. This week, it’s David Grewcock who joins us for an interview around a virtual cup of coffee.

About David

I’m David and for as long as I can remember I’ve always had LEGO close to hand… which must be well over forty years now! I remember the time before LEGO minifigures – and desperately trying to get the sets that were released as part of a breakfast cereal campaign! More recently though, and probably through Instagram and other social media, I’ve expanded my toy collection to include many other styles and types – from the collectible Kidrobot to the Playmobil as well as the Hong Kong Fluffy House collections. If I can work out how I could place the character in the frame of an image (and it’s not too expensive) then it’s in the shopping cart! Continue reading “Meet David”

And the word of this week is Leadership.

SiPgoes52 and the Inner Child

The Inner Child

We’re more than halfway through the year and it’s been time for me to reflect on the past months. It was particularly urgent to do so as I haven’t really analyzed where I’ve been and where I’m going since last December.

At that time, Boris chose Humanity as his last word of 2017. When he wrote about it, he mentioned that for the upcoming year he wanted to explore his inner child. I liked the idea immediately, but I never imagined that 6 months later, it would become one of my main goals too.

It took me 6 months, and a toy safari in Paris, to realize how important being aware of my inner child is to me. Continue reading “SiPgoes52 and the Inner Child”

Meet Thomas

Another week, another Friday, another Feature Friday #SiPgoes52 interview around a virtual cup of coffee. Today it’s Thomas Thoresen from Denmark joining us.

Meet Thomas

My name is Thomas, and I am proud to be as old as the minifigure! Being the father of three wonderful kids, I am rarely wondering what to do with my time. I am a teacher of children between the ages of 6 and 12. My job is very fulfilling but also demanding, and when I come home, I like to do something completely different.

I do enjoy spending time alone without too much digital pollution, and after having avoided social media for several years, I eventually joined Instagram in late 2016. I wanted to begin taking photos because I enjoy beauty, solitude, and silence. At that point, I had not considered taking photos of toys.
