Week 6: Emotion

Emotion

Another week is a wrap and I´m happy to say we´ve had one more week of great submissions to our photography challenge #SiPgoes52! There were even more entries than in previous weeks so let´s put our hands together for everyone who shared their idea of Emotion:

Capturing Emotion

LEGO and Emotion

A bit more than a week ago, when we celebrated the 60th Birthday of the LEGO Brick, I stumbled upon this post from The Brothers Brick with a nice infographic of what the LEGO Company did during each decade since its creation in the 1930s. It made me realize that I’m as old as the first minifigure facial expressions. It led me to think more about the relationship between emotion, feeling and toy photography. Embracing emotions

Emotion

Emotion, what is it? Well, emotion is defined as the natural instinctive result of a stimulus, whether that be mood, circumstances, or relationships with others. Thinking on this definition, emotions are sometimes seen as weak and vulnerable in today’s world. But I think we shouldn’t be afraid to share our emotions, we should embrace them and let them shape us. It’s not good to keep them bottled up because that breaks us down inside. Week 5: Security

The word ‘secure’ entered the English language in the 16th century. It is derived from Latin Securus, meaning freedom from anxiety and so it has been with us as a concept since the early days. The combination of the two Latin words, se (without) and cura (care, anxiety), resulted in the modern word security.

But security has a wide range of other senses. Continue reading “Week 5: Security”

Security begets Confidence

Leading on from one of last month’s words, confidence, is security.

So I asked myself “Where do we find security?”

It's in routines, in friendships, and in the familiar. Security begets Confidence.Click To Tweet

When I picked security as a word to tackle this month, I thought it would be pretty easy to come up with an idea. However, as I delved deeper, and asked a few friends for their interpretations, I realised it wasn’t such a simple task.

So when I eventually came up with this shot I, felt it encompassed the word on different levels. Vader feels emotionally secure surrounded by friends, confident in his own abilities, but also physically safe and sound in his own bed.

After 60 years, LEGO bricks still fit together!

Happy Birthday, LEGO

Today we celebrate the 60th Birthday of the LEGO Brick.
It also appears to be the last day of the 4th week of #SiPgoes52.
And this week´s word was fitness.

We thought it was a good opportunity to celebrate these little plastic bricks fitting together so perfectly even after sixty years, and review the past week at the same time. Continue reading “After 60 years, LEGO bricks still fit together!”

Fitness

I’d like to thank Stuck in Plastic for inviting me to write this post about “Fitness”.  When I was reviewing the 52 words for the Stuck in Plastic challenge, the word “Fitness” stood out to me right away.

Fitness and Gymnastics

What is it about the word “Fitness” that inspires me?
It’s the idea of movement and capturing movement.
I spent over 20 years doing gymnastics when I was younger. Gymnastics is a difficult sport that requires strength, flexibility, and speed. In those years, “Fitness” meant preparing your body to be able to do complicated and dangerous skills. Continue reading “Fitness”

Week 3: Fun

Fun.
A simple word.
Yet so powerful and hardwired in our deoxyribonucleic acid.
Our DNA.
Are we not all hardwired to play and have some fun.

Wiki

According to almighty Wikipedia:

Fun is the enjoyment of pleasure, particularly in leisure activities.
Fun is an experience — often unexpected, informal, generally not cerebral and generally purposeless. It is an enjoyable distraction, diverting the mind and body from any serious task.

Hmm. Interesting.
I for sure had fun when I mindlessly explored the fields of snow and felt the sun warm my cheeks today.
Not sure it was all without purpose, but I agree it was an enjoyable distraction that freed my mind.
Made me happy. Continue reading “Week 3: Fun”

Fun

Toy Photography and Fun

At first, fun seemed one of the easiest words of our little project. For me, fun is the main reason why I started both photography and toy photography. Some four years ago, I was looking for a new creative hobby. I ended up buying a camera, and after, I eventually went into the attic looking for my old LEGO collection. It’s been fun since the beginning and only keeps on getting more fun over time.

But because this word is so important to me, coming up with a single photo that best represents it appeared to be more difficult than I thought… Continue reading “Fun”

Week 2: Confidence

Seriously? We’re already two weeks into 2018?? Awesome!

Awesome because it means that we’ve already arrived in our #SiPgoes52 challenge. The one where there’s a new word for everyone to explore every single week. All in all 52 words that you may think about. And last but not least: 52 words for you to visualize with your camera.
