We Simply Had To…

Last week we visited Stefan’s hometown and the holy grounds of FC St. Pauli´s Millerntor Stadion for a game of fuzzball Floating Bricks. After joining last year´s edition, we knew we wanted to participate and share our passion for toy photography again. Not just by “simply” printing big and hanging our work on the walls, but by inspiring and co-creating with the visitors and exhibitors themselves. We wanted to build a SiP Pop Up event like the one we successfully tried out in Skaerbaek last autumn.

Meet Niklas

It is Friday here on Planet Earth, and today we went over to Stockholm to sit down and meet with Peter’s Brother. A builder. A toy photographer. A minimalist. An AFOL who makes beautiful microbuilds.  Our Feature Friday guest.  So, without further ado, let us start at the beginning.

Who is Peter’s Brother?

My real name is Niklas Rosén. I am a 38-year-old AFOL, living in Stockholm, Sweden. I wasn’t born here, my birth town is Växjo, and that is also where I grew up. Växjö is a small town south from Stockholm (a good 400 km south, Sweden is a pretty tall country). The handle Petersbror, which I use on Instagram and Flickr is a nickname me and my brother Peter came up with. He is my brother (bror is brother in Swedish), and he started calling me Peterbror. With him it’s the other way around, I call him Niklasbror.
Weird I know 😊
I guess that is what brothers do.

Meet Beverly

Feature Friday

Today is Friday and we want to feature another creative who takes part in #SiPgoes52. This time, we interviewed Beverly aka @bevvypix from the UK.

Bev’s photography beginnings

My name is Beverley but most people call me Bev. I live and work as a pro photog with a history going back over 25+ years. Growing up in the 70s, my first camera was a 126 film camera. I loved the fact that I could record a moment in time and eventually look back on it. In the 80s I later progressed to a 110 format camera and then owned my very first film SLR. This interest in photos then enabled me to then work in a photographic lab where I learned how to process films and use chemicals in order to make an image.

Week 6 – Emotion

My passion was growing every day in the photographic industry. I became more and more captivated, and as the saying goes “I didn’t choose photography, photography chose me”. In the mid-90s, I was fortunate to use what I learned so far and travel onboard luxury cruise liners doing what I loved: photography. After two contracts I returned home and met my soulmate. This made me want to stay home here in the UK, so I decided to attend art college using photography as my direction. Continue reading “Meet Beverly”

Because I can…

As the days are passing by and two o seventeen is growing older our journey of twelve words is with me wherever I am. Be it at work, on weekends when out and about or sometimes while taking a shower. The last days had me thinking about the word of February: inspiration.

What inspires me?
Or who does so?
What is inspiration to me at all?
A feeling?
A state of mind?
A signal that starts something in me whenever I notice it?

The Storm Before the Calm

With less than a week to go before the Stuck-In-Plastic Meet-up I can officially say that I have begun my descent into madness.  The preparation, planning, expense and anticipation leading up to an event of this caliber are enough to drive a man straight into the plush, padded rooms of “Arkham Asylum”.  Add on the extra stressors of needing to decide which action figures to take, cleaning camera gear and remembering to pack a toothbrush alongside completing an inconceivable amount of custom action figures and I have effectively topped off my “stress Sunday” with a ripe-red cherry.  So why do we do it?  Why do we add this pressure onto an already weary body while knowingly turning our PTO Balance into a shadow of its former self?

Why? It’s a simple question I’ve always answered in the wrong way.

“-Why do you do this, David?

– Mmm… I do this because I had a smartphone and I started taking quick pics of my  figures in order to have good references for drawing my comic-books. After a few weeks I realized that I had dozens of pics and they worked pretty well with a little caption. I started publishing them on my personal Facebook account and bla,bla,bla…”
