Back to the Future

Hello and what! January 2026 has come to an end. Unlike Stuck in Plastic, we are just choosing a different direction this year and focusing on a crew only project. This has got me thinking about past projects that we issued as challenges and one in particular stands out for me and that was back in 2020 when we hit the reset button and this became affectionately known as #SiPgoesTT.

The aim of this project was to visit Hollywood and remake your movie out of a list of genres. I loved this challenge and cannot remember if I completed it. However, I did write a post which you can read here The Bevvypix Cut. As I look back, I can honestly say that the movie themes are still some of my favourite images that I have created.

Whilst I take time to look back over my body of work. It suggests that I am inspired and that I enjoy pushing my creativity as representation. When LEGO reproduce film memorabilia there is a part of me that want to recreate the scenes from movies using these inaminate objects to tell a story.

And then there are the Speed Champions. Reflecting on the what Boris has written in a previous post, I too love cars. In particular I love the Speed Champion series of cars.

And I cannot wait for this APXGP Team Race Car from F1® The Movie to come back into stock. There is for sure a shoot coming soon when I get my hands on that set. In the meantime, I have dug these shoots out from my movie archives and they certainly inspire me to shoot more.

Sadly, I simply ran outatime and I failed to participate in challenges in 2025 like I wanted to. Due to being busy on the road myself. Work had to come first, along with life. Plus my studio space went through a few transformations. Thus ending up as storage space whilst preparing to redecorate the rest of our family home. And then there were deadlines! Deadlines for the gifted sets I was lucky enough to receive from our dear friends at The LEGO Group. In particular, one #Gifted set I was fortunate to receive. Was an icon that sparks fond memories. And I got to go back to the future.

Time Machine from Back to the Future

The LEGO® Speed Champions Time Machine from Back to the Future (77256) set takes us back to 1985. The time-traveling DeLorean, invented by the scientist Doc Brown, that accidentally sent Marty McFly 30 years into the past.

The nostalgic depiction of the 1950s enabled us to visit a time gone by. While the 1980s resonate with me especially around themes of family and self-discovery. I remember watching the film special effects, and an inventive time-travel plot, blending comedy, adventure, and romance.

Manipulate Time

I am not very good at doing behind the scenes pix. Simply because I forget to do them at the time. Or more to the point, knowing that I pursue technical perfection. I quite often change a scene because it looks incorrect in camera. I feel like I would be doing more bts pix than time shooting because of the way I work. To be honest, what I start with often is not how the end photograph looks. Especially when I can add some special effects in post production.

For this particular shoot I wanted to capture a specific moment from the film. While also creating an abstract, artistic image that could manipulate perception. What came to mind was the clock tower and the iconic DeLorean being struck by lightning. Then it being driven to hit 88mph before it disappeared into time. Saying that, I know I will shoot more pix of this set in the future. And I will focus on the characters and recreate some scenes from the movies.

As the clock strikes. My thoughts turn back to a special Cinderella project that the crew are working on during 2026. What we (the crew) end up creating this year is yet to be seen, and one that could challenge us. What I do know is that I am part of a very talented creative team and that inspires me.

The crew are still here, we maybe silent at times and that’s because we have gone back to our future.
